Thursday 29th Mar.2012 – Skiing **** La Joue du Loup – sunny and warm

Up and ready early this morning. Breakfast, sort out ski kit and walk up into the village for bread and lift passes, another 67 Euro’s bite the dust!!! Lifts open a bit late but we are on our way up at 9:45 and make the most of the well pisted runs back into La Joue before it turns to mush as it is warm and sunny with not a cloud in the sky – this great weather can’t last forever this is our 10th straight sunny day:) We then head over to the Superdevoluy side and go up the La festoure one of only 5 chairlifts in the area!!! We then make the mistake of going up the extreme drag lift, the le Pierra the highest spot that can be accessed here at 2500m. Poor Mag fell off the lift as the drags go vertical at the start and tip you off backwards! She felt something pop in her thigh in quite a spectacular faceplant but luckily it wasn’t bad enough to hold her up – just a bit sore:( We made it to the top and then found it was an icy black back to the same drag!!! We didn’t want to go there again so headed over to the Sommarel side and the red run which ran down beside a rock cliff – very impressive :) We made it all the way into high rise heaven – one of the longest runs we have ever done and a lot of it in the shade making it icy. We then skied up and down back into La Joue and found a nice picnic spot by a small rock tower at the top of the Les Fontettes lift. Refreshed by our break (and ibuprofen for Mag!) we headed to another extreme drag the Sommarel one of the longest drags I have ever been on but the skiing was the best :) It’s a shame that the best skiing here can only be accessed by long steep drags :( but the pain was worth it because the red down was just great :( and we braved the drag twice with no mishaps!!! Our legs were shot by now – a full day lift pass is just too much so we headed back to La Joup, Mag went back to the van while I did the nice blue twice without stopping from top to bottom – knackered doesn’t come close to say how I feel now so I head back to the van for bread and jam:) and a drink. Mag heads over to the Tourist information Office to use the Wi-Fi and charge some things as for the second trip to France in a row our expensive Kensington Inverter we use to charge the laptop, camera batteries,GPS,mobiles,e-books toothbrush has died!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( so we will have to try and find another in the big town – a real pain in the arse:( We pack away the ski gear and relax as the sun sets over the mountain a lay in tomorrow and take it easy – it’s a hard life :)
